The team from Bury Grammar School Boys are the Manchester and Merseyside Regional Champions of the national 'Schools Challenge' General Knowledge Quiz competition. The competition, which is based on TV's 'University Challenge', has been held for over 30 years and involves hundreds of schools from all over the country. In the Regional heat, held at Merchant Taylors' School Crosby, the Bury Grammar School team of captain Nico Hobhouse, Stephen Fielden, Luke Bridges and Caspar Hobhouse defeated Merchant Taylors' Boys, Calday Grange Grammar School and Merchant Taylors' Girls on their way to the Final against Manchester Grammar School. In an exciting contest, Bury went into an early lead but Manchester steadily regained ground and with only a few minutes to go the teams were only twenty points apart. Quick thinking and speed on the buzzer enabled Bury to answer vital questions in the last stages and they ran out winners 860 points to 730. The team will now go on to face the winners of another region with the victors in that game going on to the National Finals later this year.
